Every man, woman, teen, or child receiving a thorough dental examination could benefit from receiving a digital scan of their teeth using digital x-rays. This low-radiation equipment is typically used on patients once a year to help with the assessment and detection of a range of underlying dental concerns. Additionally, we may only use x-rays to examine a certain area of your mouth if you are experiencing discomfort or other issues. Our skilled team of dental assistants and hygienists take special care when using this technology to ensure that your experience is a safe one. If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please inform our staff so we can take the needed steps to ensure your safety.
What to Expect
Generally, we will take any x-rays at the beginning of your yearly dental examination. Digital x-rays are often quicker and more efficient than traditional film x-rays because the image of your mouth will be visible on our monitors within 10 minutes or less. This will give our dentist the opportunity to view your scans and note any issues that may exist during your appointment. To perform the low-radiation x-ray, a small sensor will be placed around your teeth and at different angles for a comprehensive view. This image will then appear immediately onto our computer, and a patient record will be created of the results so we can continue to monitor your oral health and progress over the years.
If any issues are detected with the x-rays, a personalized treatment plan will be developed for you at our Pearland, TX office so we can work to restore your oral health. Whether anything of note is discovered or not, you should continue to maintain a consistent at-home dental routine that includes brushing and flossing. You should also attend your biannual cleanings and yearly dental examinations at Made Ya Smile to keep your dental wellness in check. Once every 3 – 5 years, we will take a full series of x-rays (also known as a panoramic x-ray) of your mouth for a comprehensive viewing. In between these years, we will use bitewing x-rays to assess your bone level and look for any signs of tooth decay.
Depending on the x-rays you receive during your annual dental examination, the costs may be covered by insurance. Typically, bitewing x-rays are covered once a year, while panoramic or full-series x-rays are covered once every 3 – 5 years. If you don't carry insurance, or if your insurance doesn't cover the full amount of your visit, you will be made aware of your costs prior to your appointment. Made Ya Smile in Pearland, TX accepts a range of payments, including medical financing through CareCredit® and our own in-house program.
